A fun and learning event on Ridge trail

12 April 2008

What a great day. We had some new trailworkers show up who were interested in learning more about the forest and it's history. We also had some riders who found out about us on mtbr show up to help out.

We then went up hihn's mill fire road to the heli pad and worked uphill on ridge trail until we reached Corral. This is a very interesting stretch of the trail since it goes through many different areas of the forest. It starts out in a kind of chapparal area and then works into a much more redwoody area. Some of my favorite sections of trail are here including a couple of sections that throw in some steep climbs at you.

The trailwork crew spent some time cutting out some huge trees that fell and blocked the trail. Some of the trees that fell were left and riders will be able to challange themselves by riding over them or jumping them. Some of the other trees were suspended off the ground and took some serious skill to cut out. Thanks, CDF!! The wood from this can be used later for some fun projects. Yahoo!!

We had a second part of the crew go up and work on drain clearing to prevent erosion from damaging the trail.

All in all it was a fun day and makes me feel good about what we for in the forest.
